What is Turbo Whistle Siren?

Turbo Whistle Siren is a free MakerWorld customizer that builds a print-in-place siren whistle from an OpenSCAD script by Jack (@UBaer), so you adjust it through a form instead of editing code. The slotted rotor prints captured inside its housing, and blowing into the mouthpiece spins it and chops the air into a siren sound. Since July 2024 it has been customized more than 6,500 times and liked more than 3,500 times.

The designer says the print-in-place gap, called pip, can be changed in the customizer, and warns that not every size or slot count sounds good or even works. The default gap is 0.35 mm with a chamfer at the top and bottom, and widening it or scaling the whistle up a little is the suggested fix for a rotor that sticks. Ready-made print profiles cover 0.2, 0.4 and 0.6 mm nozzles, and each profile plate uses roughly 4 to 11 g of filament.

The designer calls it an advanced print that is not for beginners, and results are mixed: print profile ratings average about 3.5 out of 5, many makers needed oil, silicone spray or a finger flick to get it turning, and some never got a sound. It suits experienced makers with a well calibrated printer who enjoy a fussy print-in-place project.

What you can make

  • Print-in-place turbo siren whistles
  • Air raid style siren whistles
  • Mini and scaled-up whistles
  • Whistles with a looser rotor gap for less precise printers

How to use Turbo Whistle Siren

  1. Open the model on MakerWorld, log in and click Customize
  2. Set the pip gap and other options, widening the gap if your printer is not finely tuned
  3. Generate the whistle and download the file or open it in Bambu Studio
  4. Print at a low layer height and keep seams off the inner gap
  5. Free the rotor, add a drop of oil or silicone spray and blow into the mouthpiece

Turbo Whistle Siren pros

  • The rotor gap (pip) is a customizer setting, so you can loosen a stiff rotor without editing code
  • Prints as one piece with the rotor already inside, with profile plates using roughly 4 to 11 g of filament
  • Ready-made print profiles for 0.2, 0.4 and 0.6 mm nozzles, plus 600+ reviews with tips on getting it to spin

Turbo Whistle Siren cons

  • The designer labels it an advanced print: the tight 0.35 mm default gap fails on a poorly tuned printer
  • Print profile ratings average about 3.5 stars; many makers needed oil or a finger start and some never got a sound
  • The most printed community profile says its whistle cannot turn and is for display only, so start from the designer's own profiles
