About this generator
Ultimate Gear Parametric Generator is a free MakerWorld customizer by ZJUN_3D that covers almost every common gear in a single form. You pick a type (spur or helical, herringbone, straight or spiral bevel, crown, internal ring, rack, or a worm with its worm wheel), then set the size with a module value, a tooth count and a thickness. It runs on an OpenSCAD script built on the BOSL2 library, and a second script stacks two gear layers into one part.
The rest of the form handles the details that decide whether a printed gear fits: pressure angle, helix angle, backlash and tip clearance, plus bore shapes from round and hex to D, double-D, cross and keyed shafts, with a tolerance and chamfer for the hole. You can add a hub on either face, cut lightening holes and chamfer the edges. Version 12 added bore rotation so keyed shafts line up while the teeth mesh, and version 13 added side holes for locking screws.
It is free with a MakerWorld login and has close to 49,000 customizations. Commenters report fixing a washing machine and a Halloween animatronic with it. It suits makers who know the module and tooth count of the gear they need; if you only know the outside diameter, expect some trial and error.

Ultimate Gear Parametric Generator pros
- Most common gear types in one form, including worms, racks, crown and bevel gears
- Round, hex, D, double-D, cross and keyed bores, with hubs and set-screw holes
- Backlash, clearance and bore tolerance fields to tune the printed fit
Ultimate Gear Parametric Generator cons
- Sizing works through module and tooth count, and several commenters struggled to hit a target diameter or asked what units the fields use
- No STEP file from MakerWorld; STEP export is only on the creator's separate ZJUN3D site
- Needs a MakerWorld account, and the Standard Digital File License rules out selling the files or prints
