What is LucentLitho?

LucentLitho turns a photo into a lithophane: a panel where the picture appears when light shines through it, because thin spots let more light through and thick spots less. You upload a PNG, JPG or HEIC photo of up to 25 MB, pick a rectangle, square, oval, circle or hexagon, and choose 3 x 5, 4 x 6 or 5 x 7 inches, in landscape or portrait. You can move, flip and scale the image in the frame, and add an optional frame and hanging loop.

The STL is a free download with no purchase or account needed; the site asks for an email address, but it is optional. What sets it apart from most lithophane generators is that you can also order the finished piece: the makers print it in white and ship it, usually within the same week, to US addresses only for now. The price of a print depends on size, shape and extras and is shown in the order form.

It suits people who want a photo gift without owning a printer, and printer owners who just want a quick framed or hanging lithophane.
