About this generator

MIKE is a free browser tool that designs a bike mount by joining two connectors with an arm it generates for you. It comes from a research group at ETH Zurich. You never draw a model yourself: you pick one part that grips the bike and one that holds your accessory, size them with sliders, place them in a 3D view, and a server computes the link between them.

The library has round one-bolt clamps, an open one-bolt clamp, two-bolt clamps for round, square or oval tubes or a profile you draw or import, bolt plates with one or two holes, rubber clamps, through-bolt tabs with one or two fingers, round or rectangular cups, and ready Garmin, GoPro or combined Garmin plus GoPro interfaces. Round bolt clamps take tube diameters from 5 to 50 mm, and the arm can be 6 to 30 mm across. The result downloads as one STL, with an optional text file of your settings. The team shares printed examples on Printables.

The tool warns that computing the arm can take some time and can fail when the parts sit awkwardly, so expect to nudge them and try again. It suits cyclists who need a light, camera or computer mount for an unusual handlebar, stem or frame tube.

What you can make

  • Handlebar mounts for bike lights
  • GoPro and Garmin adapters
  • Bike computer mounts
  • Clamp-on adapters for frame and bar tubes
  • Round or rectangular holders for the bike

How to use MIKE - Bicycle Mount Generator

  1. Pick the first connector, for example a clamp for your handlebar, and set its size
  2. Pick the second connector, such as a GoPro or Garmin mount
  3. Rotate and move the connectors with the Positioning sliders or the 3D view until they sit where you want them
  4. Click Generate Connection and wait for the arm to be computed
  5. Name the file in the Export tab and download the STL

MIKE - Bicycle Mount Generator pros

  • Any two of eight connector families can be combined, from tube clamps to GoPro and Garmin interfaces
  • Clamps are sized to your exact tube, and a drawing window handles non-round profiles
  • The arm between the two parts is generated for you, free and without signing up

MIKE - Bicycle Mount Generator cons

  • Placing the second connector in 3D takes practice, and generation can fail until you move it
  • STL only, and each connection can take a while to compute on the server
  • A research project: your settings are sent to the team when you export, and the page may change or move
