What is Parametric Grommet Generator?

Parametric Grommet Generator is a free MakerWorld customizer by GrizzBuilds that makes a two-part grommet for a round hole in a panel, desktop or cabinet wall. You print both halves, feed your cables through and press them together through the panel, so the grommet holds without screws or glue. It runs in MakerWorld's Parametric Model Maker and has been customized more than 14,000 times since July 2025.

The form asks for six numbers: the cable hole, the hole cut in your panel, the flange diameter, the panel thickness, the overall thickness and a fit tolerance (0.05 mm by default). Options add a chamfer to the outer flange edges, round off the inside of the cable hole so insulation does not get scuffed, or close the middle completely to make a blanking plug for an unused hole. If the sizes cannot work, for example a cable hole wider than the panel hole, the generator stops and tells you why instead of making a broken part. A panel thickness bug that made early users enter double the real value was fixed in April 2026.

Both halves print flat without supports. TPU gives a soft grommet; PLA or PETG a rigid one. It suits anyone routing cables through furniture, sheds, boats or project boxes who owns a caliper but no CAD software.

How to use Parametric Grommet Generator

1. Measure your cable bundle, the panel hole and the panel thickness with a caliper
2. Open the model on MakerWorld, sign in and click Customize
3. Enter the diameters and thicknesses, and switch the chamfer, fillet or blanking option on or off
4. Generate, download the file and print both halves flat without supports
5. Feed the cables through and press the halves together through the panel
