What is printastencil.com?

printastencil.com is a free browser tool that turns the solder paste layer of a circuit board into a 3D-printable stencil. You drop in the paste layer exported from KiCad, either as a Gerber file (.gtp, .gbp, .gbr and similar) or as an SVG plot, and it builds a thin plate with an opening over every pad. Width and height are filled in from the pad layout, thickness starts at 0.12 mm, and you check the result in a 3D preview you can rotate before saving it as an STL.

If you also load the board's edge cuts file, the stencil is sized to the PCB outline and gets a locating lip: a low wall that wraps around the board edge so the stencil drops into place without lining it up by eye. Lip height, wall thickness and fit clearance are all adjustable. A selection mode lets you drag across the preview to switch pads on or off, and a panel option lays out up to 20 columns and rows of boards.

It suits hobbyists who assemble small runs of SMD boards and want a quick stencil instead of ordering a steel one. Processing stays in your browser and the code is MIT-licensed open source.

What you can make

  • SMD solder paste stencils
  • Stencils with a board-locating lip
  • Stencils sized to the board outline
  • Panelized stencils for several boards

How to use printastencil.com

  1. Export the paste layer from KiCad as a Gerber or SVG file
  2. Drop it in, and add the edge cuts file if you want a board lip
  3. Set the thickness, lip fit and any panel columns or rows
  4. Toggle off pads you want to skip in the preview
  5. Download the STL and print it

printastencil.com pros

  • The board lip seats the stencil on the PCB without manual alignment
  • Reads KiCad Gerber and SVG paste layers directly, no conversion step
  • Free, open source and runs fully in the browser with no sign-up

printastencil.com cons

  • You need your own PCB design files, ideally from KiCad, to start
  • The default plate is only 0.12 mm thick, and the page warns that pads under 0.1 mm may not print cleanly on FDM, so a fine nozzle or resin printer helps
  • Exports STL only, and the README notes the mesh may need a quick repair in the slicer
