twirly

What is twirly?

twirly makes one family of shapes very well: a ribbed body that twists as it rises and can close at the top in a rounded or pointed tip. That top is what sets it apart from other vase generators, because besides open vases and candy bowls it makes closed decorative objects such as a garlic bulb, a bishop's hat, a sea urchin shell or an ice-cream swirl.

There are seven presets and a short set of sliders: height and base diameter, a waisted vase silhouette with profile arc and bulge depth, rib count and depth, twist angle and twist arc, and for the top a pointiness, roundness and tip size. A detail setting trades smoothness for render time. The model is computed by OpenSCAD inside your browser, which takes a second or two after each change.

The download is an STL, and the settings live in the address bar, so Copy link shares a design. It is free with no account. The code is GPL-3.0 because it ships the OpenSCAD runtime; that license covers the software, not prints. The site also runs at twirly.juliaogris.com and twirly.mak3r.space. It suits anyone after a quick twisted ornament, bowl or vase without many settings.
