What is Biome Generator?
Biome Generator is a free, open-source browser tool that makes low-poly hexagonal terrain tiles in soft pastel colors, which suit tabletop boards, game maps or a desk display. You start from one of eight biomes (meadow, forest, coast, alpine, lake, desert, tundra and village) and a seed. Each seed gives a different mix of terraces, water, paths and small props such as trees, rocks, benches, docks and fences. You click the faint hexes around a tile to grow a board, and a selected tile can switch to its own biome. Neighboring tiles agree on their shared edge, so a path or a stream carries on across the seam.
Sliders set the tile size and how many props, roads and water edges appear. With roads and water turned off, every tile fits every other tile, so a set can be re-laid freely. Printed dovetails join the tiles without glue. You pick 1 to 4 filaments and a printer bed, the app spreads the tiles over plates, and a print check flags open meshes, steep overhangs, parts under 1 mm and anything left floating.
It suits board gamers, tabletop RPG players and owners of a multicolor printer who want a colorful print without modeling. The project is new and run by one person, so there were few example prints or guides as of September 2026.

Biome Generator pros
- Neighboring tiles match along their edges, so paths and water continue across a board you build tile by tile
- Exports a multicolor 3MF with one part per filament, or a zip with one STL per filament and a README listing the color order
- Built-in print check for closed meshes, 45 degree overhangs, 1 mm features and floating parts, plus dovetail joints so no glue is needed
Biome Generator cons
- Colors come from fixed biome palettes, with no color picker, text or custom props
- Only four printer beds to pick for the plate layout (Bambu A1 mini, Bambu P1S / X1C, Prusa MK4, Ender 3)
- Very new one-person project with few or no community prints or guides, and the desktop version has to be built from source
