What is Chip Tray Generator?
Chip Tray Generator makes stackable trays for storing old processors and chips. You pick a package from a long list: ceramic and plastic PGA CPUs from the 287 and 386 up to Athlon 64, LGA 775 and later sockets, QFP and PLCC chips, and DIP chips from 8 to 64 pins, or enter a custom PGA size. The pocket sizes come from manufacturer datasheets and JEDEC outlines, and the page shows which source it used.
You set rows and columns, the fit tolerance, walls, floor and pocket depth. The way each chip is held depends on the package: PGA CPUs rest on a pedestal or an edge ledge so the pins hang free, QFP and PLCC chips sit on a pad under the body, and DIP chips lie on a rail in a channel with separators. Every pocket gets a push-out hole, and optional finger notches let you lift chips out sideways. Trays nest on a 2 mm rim, a fixed outer size keeps different trays stackable, and a flat lid closes the stack.
A label can be raised (its own part in the 3MF for a second color), engraved or left off. You download STL, 3MF or a parametric OpenSCAD file, and the preview estimates the filament use. It is free, MIT-licensed, needs no account and runs from a single HTML page. So far the maker has confirmed a printed 486 tray only, so print one tray and check the fit before a full stack.
