What is Make My Lantern (MakerLab)?
Make My Lantern is a free browser tool in Bambu Lab's MakerLab that turns a picture of an animal or object into a hollow lantern shell with cut-outs, so a small light placed inside shines through. It first builds a 3D model of the subject from your image, then hollows it and cuts a pattern into the surface. The result is a lantern shaped like your pet, toy or figure instead of a plain round shade.
Once the model is ready you pick one of three cut patterns (Nest, Diamond or Octagon), set the hole density with a slider, and adjust scale, position and rotation. You also choose a light type: Candle is sized for Bambu's LED flame tea lights and Disk Light for its LED Lamp Kit 001, and the matching base insert comes with the download. You can save the files as STL or open the result straight in Bambu Studio.
The tool works best with simple subjects, such as animals sitting or lying down, and warns against thin legs or very long or flat shapes. It was labeled an experiment as of September 2026, needs a free MakerWorld account and puts generations in a queue. It suits makers who want a quick night-light gift from a pet or toy photo.
