What is PartForge?

PartForge, made by Pixite, is a browser CAD tool you talk to. You describe a part in plain words, or drop in a photo, a sketch or a 3D file, and an AI assistant builds real parametric geometry with a live 3D view. Every dimension becomes an adjustable slider, so changing one number updates the whole part, and you keep refining it by asking for changes in the chat.

Finished parts are called forges and export as STL, 3MF or STEP. A public library of community forges, browsable without an account, holds parts like a propeller with adjustable blade count and twist, a stackable storage container, an enclosure and a planetary gear desk toy. Each published forge carries the license its author chose, and you can remix it or clone its code.

Generating needs an account: you sign in with an email link and must be 18 or older. The free plan has no card and includes some AI usage each week; Starter costs $20 a month ($200 a year) and Pro $100 a month ($1,000 a year) for higher limits. On any plan you can connect your own Anthropic, OpenAI or OpenRouter API key and pay the provider directly. The plans page does not say how many generations each tier gets. The terms note that generated dimensions and tolerances are suggestions, not verified engineering, so check a part before you print it. It suits makers who want functional parts without learning CAD.

PartForge pros

  • Parametric result: every dimension is a slider you can change later
  • STEP export alongside STL and 3MF, so parts can go on into CAD
  • Public library of community forges to remix, each with its license shown

PartForge cons

  • Account needed to generate, and only for ages 18 and up
  • Free usage is limited and the plans do not state generation counts
  • AI-made dimensions and tolerances still need checking before printing
