What is Brick Your Name?

Brick Your Name is a free OpenSCAD customizer on MakerWorld, made by ozarkexpeditions, that turns a word into a flat plate cut in the shape of its letters with brick studs across the top. Toy bricks click onto it like on a normal baseplate, so a child's name, a family name or a workshop sign becomes something to build on. It took second place in MakerWorld's OpenSCAD Master Challenge.

You click Customize, type the text, pick a font from a dropdown and use sliders for text height, text weight, letter spacing and a sideways or up and down nudge, so the letter edges don't cut studs in half. There are two files: the original thin baseplate and a thicker version where a block height ratio sets how tall the letters are, starting at one standard brick. A stud rescale setting tunes the fit; the designer suggests 1.0 for bricks printed from his own brick customizer and 1.05 for name-brand bricks. Long names take a while to render, and the thicker version has a curve smoothness setting to speed that up.

It has been customized more than 116,000 times and liked over 10,000 times. It suits parents, kids' rooms and brick fans looking for a personal gift.

How to use Brick Your Name

2. Choose the original baseplate or the thicker version
3. Type the name and pick a font
4. Adjust size, spacing and offset, then click Generate
5. Sign in, download the 3MF and print it flat
