About this generator

ClipMate is a free MakerWorld customizer by 3dPrintInPlace that turns a name or short label into a two-part tag that clamps onto a cable. Each tag prints as two flat halves with a groove down the middle. You lay the cable in the groove and press the halves together, and four printed pins snap into matching holes, so the tag goes on without threading it over the plug.

In the Parametric Model Maker you type the name, pick a font from MakerWorld's list, choose the colors, and set the cable diameter and the pin tolerance. The page gives about 3.1 mm for a standard Apple charging cable and 3.6 mm for a braided one, and the designer suggests measuring your own cable and adding about 0.2 mm. One commenter made a 6 mm version for a Cat6 Ethernet cable. The letters stand up in a second color, and the designer's print profile needs no supports.

It suits families who keep mixing up chargers, or anyone labeling the cables on a desk. Plan on a test print: several commenters say their halves did not click together, while others found the fit tight, so check the fit and adjust the tolerance before printing a whole set. The designer also advises printing each half as a separate object.
