All 58 keychain and tag generators compared

The best name keychain generator depends on your printer. With an AMS or another multicolor system, the Custom Name Keychain Generator is the most flexible: you can type in a Google Font by name, use non-Latin scripts or upload your own SVG. Without one, the Name Keychain Generator [NO AMS] is built for a single filament swap. Both are free for personal use on MakerWorld.

A name keychain is also one of the prints people ask makers for most: one for every child in the class, a tag for a school bag, a small gift for a friend. A good generator pays off quickly.

Quick answer

Name keychain generators for an AMS

With an AMS or another multicolor unit, pick a generator that exports a 3MF with the colors already split, so the printer does the swaps for you.

The Custom Name Keychain Generator makes layered name keychains in its default fonts or a Google Font you type in by name, including non-Latin scripts when the font has the characters, or from your own SVG. The Parametric Customizable Name Keychain Creator has four text styles (embossed, inlay, engraved and cutout) and up to three colors. Enter several names separated by commas and it makes one keychain per name, which saves a lot of time for party favors or team gifts.

With more than 370,000 customizations, the Customizable Parametric Name Keychain by Stampa 3D AV Studio is one of the most used keychain customizers on MakerWorld. It is a different model from the Creator, despite the similar name, and makes one name per run, in two colors: raised letters on a base that follows the outline of the name, with an adjustable ring. Files made without the designer’s commercial license carry a small mark on the back, and removing it to sell prints costs $10 a month for this model.

For car keys, the Car Plate Keychain Creator turns your registration, or any short text, into a mini European-style plate. Its 3MF keeps the white plate, the blue band and the black characters on separate colors, so an AMS prints it in one go. Think before you use your real registration: whoever finds the keys can tell which car they open.

3DGEN is mainly a set of casting mold generators, but its keychain generator has nine fonts, a rectangle, oval or rhombus plate or a shape that follows the letters, a border and a frame, and exports a 3MF with each part as its own colored object. Free downloads carry a small engraved 3DGEN mark and are capped each week, and selling the keychains needs a paid plan.

For a logo or a drawing instead of a name, see pet tags and logo keychains below.

Name keychain generator without an AMS

You do not need an AMS for a two-color name keychain. Print the base in one color, pause at the height where the letters start, and swap to a second color for the letters.

The Name Keychain Generator [NO AMS] is designed for this. Its bubble outline puts the text on top of the base, so one pause is enough, and the font picker offers more than 1,500 Google Fonts. Batch mode takes a comma-separated list of names and fills a whole plate. The Custom Multicolour Name Keyring by Hayden Kong also needs just one pause, where the front text starts, and gives every letter its own spacing slider so you can tuck the letters together. Letters only join where they overlap, so check the preview for loose pieces before you download.

If you would rather not sign in anywhere, the MyLaserTools Keychain Generator runs in the browser with no account. Its 3D Print style gives raised letters in a separate color and exports STL or a two-color 3MF, and its Layered style has a batch mode for a list of names. ilove3d Name Keychain is simpler, with nine fonts and an STL only. With either, add a filament change where the raised letters begin.

For kids and gamers, Nametag Studio is an unofficial, open-source tool that sets the name in a Minecraft-style pixel font on a flat tag, with keychain, magnet and plaque presets. It needs no account, has a batch mode for a list of names, and exports an STL or a 3MF with the base and text as separately colored parts, so it also works on an AMS. It has one look only, the site says nothing about selling prints, and Minecraft is a Mojang trademark.

  1. Generate a keychain with raised letters. Any design where the text sits on top of the base works. In the NO AMS generator, the designer puts the swap at the Base_Thickness height.
  2. Slice it and find the first layer of the letters. Open the preview in your slicer and move the layer slider up until the letters start.
  3. Add a pause at that layer. In Bambu Studio or OrcaSlicer, right-click the layer slider and choose Add Pause. In PrusaSlicer, click the plus icon next to the slider to add a color change. In Cura, use Extensions > Post Processing > Modify G-Code and add the Pause at height script.
  4. Print the base, then swap. When the printer stops, unload the base filament, load the letter color and resume.
  5. Choose colors with strong contrast. The NO AMS designer suggests a dark base with light letters.

Pet tags and logo keychains

For a pet, the Pet Tag Generator Dog Cat has five shapes: round, heart, bone, paw print and a rectangle with a raised border. You type the name and one or two phone lines, and long lines can shrink to fit. A second version lets you pick the text color for a two-color print, and a third puts a QR code on the back of the round and rectangle tags. The PETTAG V.2 has one shape and puts the name on the front and one or two phone numbers on the back. Print either in PETG, and use a fine layer height so small text stays readable; for very small text, the Pet Tag Generator’s designer suggests Arachne walls.

The Obloid Keychain & Pet Tag Generator is a browser tool rather than a MakerWorld customizer. It has a rounded rectangle, circle, bone or heart shape, 11 fonts or your own TTF, and text raised 1.2 mm for a second color or engraved 1.2 mm so it does not wear off on a collar. The Bambu or Orca 3MF puts the tag and text on separate filaments. Designing is free without an account, but exporting needs a sign-in, and only three exports per tool are free.

For a logo, a cartoon or a child’s drawing, use Image to Keychain (MakerLab). It turns the picture into a layered keychain and downloads a 3MF that opens in Bambu Studio with the colors assigned. Clean artwork in a few solid colors works best.

The 3D Keychain Generator is a full keychain editor: combine text, icons and your own SVG logo, or add a QR code, a Spotify-style code or a sound waveform. It needs a free account and is still labeled a public beta.

Spotify code keychains

For a Spotify code keychain, use CodesToSTL if you want a file in one step, or the Customizable Spotify Keychain / Tag on MakerWorld if you want a slot for printed cover art.

CodesToSTL needs no account. Paste a Spotify link to a song, album or artist, choose a rounded or squared shape, a length of 6, 8 or 10 cm and one of three relief depths, and download the STL. Its terms allow personal and hobby use only, so you cannot sell the keychains.

The MakerWorld model takes a few more steps. You paste your Spotify link into a helper site linked on the model page, copy the two codes it gives you into the customizer, and choose a keychain or a standing tag. You add the code color yourself after downloading: the designer’s guide does this in the desktop version of Bambu Studio, because the mobile version could not color a model as of July 2026. Use two colors with strong contrast, or the Spotify app may not read the code.

Signs, name plates and QR codes

This guide covers keychains. For desk name plates, door signs and 3D text, see the sign and 3D text generators. For QR codes, Wi-Fi codes and NFC tags, including what makes a printed QR code scan, see the QR code and Spotify code generators.

Tips for crisp name keychains

  • Keep letters at least 1 mm thick and strokes wider than your nozzle (0.4 mm or more).
  • Change color at the right layer. Most generators tell you the height; otherwise use your slicer’s layer preview.
  • Print flat on the bed, face up, so the letters get a clean top surface.
  • Test a Spotify code with your phone before you print a batch.

Frequently asked questions

How do I print a two-color name keychain without a multicolor printer?

Add a pause or filament change in your slicer at the layer where the letters start. When the printer stops, swap the filament and resume. Generators such as the Name Keychain Generator [NO AMS] are designed for exactly this.

Can I sell keychains I make with these generators?

It depends on the license. Many MakerWorld customizers are for personal use only, and some designers sell a commercial membership: the Name Keychain Generator [NO AMS] designer charges $4.99 a month for one. CodesToSTL does not allow its designs to be sold at all. The MyLaserTools Keychain Generator includes a commercial license at no cost, so you may sell the printed keychains, though not the files. Check each listing before you sell.

What is the best filament for keychains?

PLA works for most keychains. Silk PLA gives a shiny look, and PETG or TPU hold up better on keys that live in a pocket.

What you'll need

Multicolor filament systems

An automatic filament changer prints multi-color signs, keychains and HueForge pieces without you standing by to swap filament at every color layer.

Multicolor PLA and color sets

Dual- and tri-color silks give a single-nozzle printer color shifts with no extra hardware, and a matched color set is what lets HueForge and color lithophanes blend thin layers into a full image.

Key rings for printed keychains

A sturdy metal split ring is what turns a printed name tag into a keychain that survives life in a pocket; printed plastic loops wear through quickly.
