About this generator
Fibonacci Spheres is a free MakerWorld customizer by Brent Peterson that makes hollow, airless balls covered in evenly spaced holes. It runs an OpenSCAD script that places the holes on a Fibonacci lattice, a pattern that spreads any number of points evenly over a sphere, so the ball looks tidy whether it has 100 holes or more than 500.
In MakerWorld's Parametric Model Maker you set the ball's diameter, wall thickness and smoothness, then the number of holes, their width, how many sides each hole has and how they are rotated. Three sides gives triangles, six gives hexagons and higher numbers come close to round. The page has five example settings to start from: a 40 mm table tennis ball, a 42.67 mm golf ball, a 65 mm tennis ball, a thick 75 mm stress ball printed in TPU and a 100 mm display piece. The creator's profiles print the ball with supports underneath and explain how to use a second filament as an easy-release support layer.
It suits anyone who wants a squishy fidget ball, a toy ball for kids or a geometry model for a math class. It is free with a MakerWorld account.
