What is Musical Fidget Generator?

Musical Fidget Generator is a free MakerWorld customizer by kida that turns a short tune into a small fidget you can play. The print has a row of note bars and a slider that you push along them one note at a time, at the tempo of the song. It runs in MakerWorld's Parametric Model Maker, so you fill in a form instead of editing the OpenSCAD code behind it.

You set a melody length of 8 to 33 notes and pick each note from 20 half tones, F up to C2. You can add text on the front and back, adjust its font size and choose whether to include a keychain hole. A melody wider than that range has to be simplified, and one that sits too high or low has to be shifted first. The creator offers a printable note transposition wheel for that. The page also carries about 290 print profiles with ready-made songs, from film themes to Happy Birthday. The generated file is one color; the creator's profiles add a filament change at layer 3 so the text and arrow stand out.

The model has about 16,700 likes, 85,000 customizations and a MakerWorld Staff Pick. The pitch depends on the filament: it was tuned with stiff PLA, and the creator advises against matte or soft PLA. You need to know the tune and have a MakerWorld account. It suits fidget fans and anyone after a playable gift.
