What is Gridfinity Refinery?

Gridfinity Refinery is a free browser tool that makes Gridfinity bins and baseplates from a form, with no CAD needed. It sends your settings to the gridfinity-rebuilt-openscad library by Kenneth Hodson on its own server, shows a 3D preview in the browser and lets you download the part as STL or 3MF.

On the Bins tab you set width, depth and height in grid units, turn the stacking lip on or off and add magnet or screw holes, crush ribs, scoops and label tabs. Dragging across a small layout grid splits the bin into compartments, and a paint mode lets you draw L-shaped or other odd pockets. Compartments can also get cylinder, slot or hex cutouts or a sloped floor, and two optional CadQuery renderers round off the sharp inside corners.

The Baseplate tab offers thin, weighted, skeletonized and screw-together plates. Enter your drawer size and it pads the edges to fill the gap, then cuts the plate into pieces that fit your print bed and gives you a ZIP of STLs. Layouts can be saved to a file and opened again later. It suits people who want more control than a basic bin maker but still want to work from a form. It is a newer, smaller project than the best-known Gridfinity generators.

What you can make

  • Gridfinity bins
  • Bins with custom or L-shaped compartments
  • Bins with cylinder, slot or hex cutouts
  • Drawer-sized baseplates
  • Baseplates split into bed-sized pieces

How to use Gridfinity Refinery

  1. Open the Bins tab and set width, depth and height in grid units
  2. Drag across the layout grid to add compartments, then pick lip, holes, tabs and scoops
  3. Press Generate and check the 3D preview
  4. For a baseplate, open the Baseplate tab and enter your drawer and bed size to split it into pieces
  5. Download the STL or 3MF, or a ZIP of baseplate pieces

Gridfinity Refinery pros

  • Draw compartments by dragging, including L-shaped pockets
  • Fits a baseplate to your drawer and splits it into pieces for your bed
  • Free with no signup, and bins download as STL or 3MF

Gridfinity Refinery cons

  • Small project with little community discussion
  • The Pure CadQuery renderer, which rounds every corner, still leaves out tabs, scoops and holes
  • Parts render on the site's server after you press Generate, so you need a connection and a short wait
