About this generator
Parametric Cuban Chain Generator by Koolm is a free MakerWorld customizer that builds a chunky Cuban-style link chain. People make necklaces, straps for bags and toy cameras, and quite often a joke gold chain for a dog or cat. An OpenSCAD script runs behind MakerWorld's Parametric Model Maker, so you only fill in a form.
For most chains you change two things: the chain scale, which sizes the whole chain up or down, and the number of links. Link size, curvature and spacing have their own settings. The two Chain Plate values set the size of the path the chain follows on the bed, and a spiral path fits a long chain on one plate. To get a closed loop you adjust the link count and plate size until the ends meet, while a debug view shows the estimated chain length and link size. If you would rather skip the form, five print profiles cover 20, 30, 40, 60 and 72 cm; the 72 cm one takes about three hours and 48 g of PLA.
It has been customized more than 13,000 times. Koolm has not changed the script since December 2024 and now points people to a newer Chain Maker that also does classic chains, but this original still works and suits a costume chain or a quick gift.
