What is PlainMesh?
PlainMesh is a freemium set of browser tools that turns names, photos, maps and SVG files into models for 3D printing and laser engraving. The largest part is a library of about 350 parametric templates: name tags, keychains, cake toppers, coasters, signs and ornaments. You open one, type a name or number, pick a font, adjust size and placement, add a keyring hole or other mounting, and export.
Next to the templates sit about 20 other tools. The lithophane maker puts a photo on a flat, curved, globe, cylinder, bell, lampshade or heart shape, or on a model you upload. A map tool builds terrain from OpenStreetMap with buildings, roads and GPX tracks. There is also a 3D QR code maker, an LED lightbox builder, a packaging tool that cuts a recess shaped like your model, and SVG to 3D. Some, such as Mesh Fixer and Fill & Split, edit models you already have. Multi-layer designs like coasters and lightboxes can export 3MF with colors assigned.
The tools open without paying, but downloads need a Patreon login. The free membership allows 3 exports a day for personal use. It suits makers who print a lot of personalized gifts and want many templates in one place.
