What is PotGen?

PotGen is a free browser tool for designing plant pots and the saucers that go under them. It opens on a plain round pot in a 3D preview, and changes in the side panel show up on the model as you make them. One button saves the pot as an STL, and a Tray button switches the preview to a drip tray sized to fit it. The file is built in your browser, so there is no account and no upload step.

You pick a round, square or rectangular body, then set the height (20 to 500 mm), diameter or width and length, wall and floor thickness, and a taper that widens or narrows the top. Menus cover four rim styles, three base styles and ten surface finishes, from smooth to wood grain, linen and hammered. Drainage allows up to eight holes in a center cluster, an edge ring or a single center hole. The pattern section has 15 options, from fluted columns and chevrons to twists and a vortex, each with its own sliders. You can stack several pattern layers or press Randomize Design for a starting point.

It suits plant owners who want a pot sized for one windowsill or one nursery pot. Settings live in the page address, so a design can be shared as a link.

What you can make

  • Round, square and rectangular planter pots
  • Matching drip trays
  • Patterned and textured pots

How to use PotGen

  1. Open potgen.io and choose a cylinder, square or rectangle shape
  2. Set the height, diameter, wall thickness, taper and drainage holes
  3. Add pattern layers or a surface finish, or press Randomize Design
  4. Download the pot STL, then press Tray and download the tray STL
  5. Slice both files and print

PotGen pros

  • Pot and matching drip tray come from the same settings, each as its own STL
  • 15 stackable patterns with their own sliders, 10 surface finishes and a randomize button
  • Runs in the browser with no sign-up, and designs can be shared as a URL

PotGen cons

  • STL only, with no 3MF or multicolor output
  • The tray is sized from the pot, with no sliders for its depth, lip or margin
  • Small one-person project (v1.0.0) with little community feedback
