What is Crystal Maker?

Crystal Maker is a free browser app that grows clusters of pointed crystals and hands you an STL. Its maker, Rushberg, shared it on Printables in September 2024. Everything runs in the page, with a 3D preview on a 25 cm grid so you can judge the size before you download.

A design is made of layers. Each layer sets how many crystals it grows, their height, base and mid width, number of sides, tilt angle and sideways offset, plus some random distortion and a sink value that cuts the bottom flat so the piece sits on the bed. Most fields take a minimum and a maximum, and every press of Generate picks new values inside those ranges, so each result is a one-off. Five presets (Cluster, Large Cluster, Impact, Pedestal and Coaster) give you a working start; Coaster, for example, makes a flat round disc with a ring of crystals around the rim. You can save your settings as a JSON file and load them again later.

It suits makers who want an unusual desk ornament or a small gift for someone who likes gemstones. Expect a bit of trial and error with the numbers. Silk or translucent filament suits the faceted shapes well.
