What is Cross Stitch Grid - Parametric?

Cross Stitch Grid - Parametric is a free MakerWorld customizer by camillabertrand that makes a stiff, printable plastic canvas for cross stitch. In the Parametric Model Maker you pick a square or rectangle, round, oval or hexagon shape, then set the width and height in millimeters, the border width and the base thickness. Leave the hole count at zero and it fits as many holes as the shape allows, or enter a count and the base grows or shrinks to match. Hole size (1.26 mm) and spacing (0.84 mm) stay fixed, which works out to about 12 holes per inch.

The page also includes two PDF stitch charts, a Great Wave and a koi fish, plus a stamp-shaped border meant to be printed in a second color. That border is a fixed file: the creator confirmed in the comments that only the grid is parametric, so a resized grid comes without a matching frame. The creator's workaround is to scale the frame in Bambu Studio.

The listing has close to 3,000 likes, over 10,000 collections and more than 4,000 customizations. The ready print profile takes about an hour and 15 g of PLA. One maker found their needle too thick for the holes, so check yours first. It suits stitchers who want a small, rigid canvas in a shape fabric hoops do not offer.

Cross Stitch Grid - Parametric pros

  • Four base shapes, with width, height, border and base thickness all adjustable
  • Enter the hole count your chart needs and the base resizes to fit
  • Comes with two PDF stitch charts and a stamp-style border to print in a second color

Cross Stitch Grid - Parametric cons

  • Only the grid is parametric, so the stamp border has to be scaled by hand in the slicer
  • Hole size is fixed at 1.26 mm, so a thick needle may not pass through
  • Needs a MakerWorld account, and the license rules out selling prints
