What is Plastic Canvas Generator?

Plastic Canvas Generator is a free MakerWorld customizer by Mio that makes flat open grids, the kind of plastic canvas used for needlepoint, cross stitch, crochet and latch hooking. The creator first meant it as a pixel stamp for clay, so it also works as a simple grid stamp.

The page holds two OpenSCAD files that run in MakerWorld's Parametric Model Maker. One starts from the cell: you set the size of each square cell, how many cells go in a row and in a column, the height and the wall thickness, which also lets you make rectangular canvases. The other starts from the finished size: you enter the width of a square grid, how many cells go across, the height and the line thickness, and it works out the cell size for you. Sizes are in millimeters, so for a count such as 10 or 18 holes per inch you do the conversion yourself; the creator walks through the math in the comments. Ready-made profiles cover 20 by 20 cm canvases with cells of about 7, 5 or 3 mm, plus three smaller canvases that fit an A1 mini.

How to use Plastic Canvas Generator

1. Sign in to MakerWorld, open the model page and click Customize
2. Choose the by cell size or by total grid size file
3. Enter the cell or grid size, cell count, height and line thickness
4. Generate, download the STL or 3MF and print it flat
