What is Gensert?

Gensert turns a photo of a tool or object into a Gridfinity bin with a cutout in its shape. You load a straight-on photo, draw a scale line over something of known length and type that length, then click points around the object to trace its outline, with a smoothness slider. The outline is not detected for you, so the result depends on how carefully you click.

The bin is sized to the outline on its own, and you can add extra bins of width or depth, set the bin height in Gridfinity units, the cutout depth and the insert height. Options include a regular lip, no lip or no lip at full height, and magnet holes, refined holes, corner-only holes, screw holes, crush ribs, chamfered holes, a printable hole top and a thumbscrew.

The geometry is made in the browser with OpenSCAD and the gridfinity-rebuilt library, and the tab can freeze for a few seconds while it works. You get an STL of the bin and can save the traced outline as SVG. It is free with no account; the repository has no license and nothing about selling prints, and it has not changed since July 2025. It suits people who want a free shadow-board style insert and do not mind tracing by hand.
