What is TracetoForge?
TracetoForge is a browser tool that turns a photo of a hand tool into a printable insert with a cutout shaped to that tool. You lay the tool on white A4 or Letter paper, shoot straight down and upload the picture. The editor traces the outline in your browser, and the paper gives it a known size so it can work out real millimeters. Sliders and draggable points fix a trace that shadows or chrome threw off.
From one trace you pick an output: an extruded shape, a tray sized for a drawer or toolbox, a Gridfinity bin with base profile and stacking lip, or a flat gasket outline. Ready tray templates cover three Milwaukee Packout organizers and a DeWalt ToughSystem 2.0 box. One insert holds up to five tools, each with its own depth, clearance, rotation, finger notch and bevel. Files come out as STL, 3MF, SVG or DXF, so a trace can also go to a laser cutter or CNC router.
Tracing and the 3D preview are free without an account, but every download needs an account and uses a credit. It suits anyone filling a drawer or Packout case with pliers and wrenches who would rather not model cutouts. A sample photo lets you try it first, and a shared trace library can skip the photo step.

TracetoForge pros
- Traces the outline from a phone photo and uses the paper sheet to set real-world scale
- Holds up to five tools per insert, each with its own depth, clearance, rotation and finger notch
- Exports DXF and SVG as well as STL and 3MF, so one trace also works for laser cutting or CNC
TracetoForge cons
- Every download needs an account and uses one credit; after the three free credits you have to buy a pack
- Shiny or shadowed tools can trace poorly and need a better photo or slider tweaks
- Ready-made Packout and ToughSystem templates covered only a handful of specific cases as of September 2026
