About this generator

Customizable Parametric Lithophane Text is a free MakerWorld customizer that turns your own words into a thin slatted card whose message changes as you tilt it. Despite the name, it is not a backlit lithophane. The card is a grid of narrow openings, and the letters you see depend on the angle you look through it. The cover animation shows one card reading "Love" at one tilt and "You" at the other.

You open the model page in a desktop browser, sign in, click Customize, type your text, set the card length and download the file. There are three versions: a single-color card, a two-color card with the text and frame in different filaments, and a 54 x 85 mm credit card size that fits in a wallet but holds fewer letters. The designer's own profile uses 0.2 mm layers and about 6 g of PLA, and takes roughly 23 minutes. Width and text size are fixed, so longer words need a longer card, and the designer advises against shrinking it in the slicer.

It has been customized more than 48,000 times and liked about 4,400 times, and the comments are full of joke signs and small presents for partners, friends and family. It suits anyone who wants a quick, cheap novelty card or desk message with a hidden twist.
