What is map2stl.com?

map2stl.com is a single-page terrain generator. You move a box over a Google terrain map, or type a latitude and longitude, set a few sliders and click Generate, and the site builds an STL of the land inside the box. The footer credits Thatcher Chamberlin's Terrain2STL as the inspiration for the backend and names Viewfinder Panoramas as the source of the elevation data, so the results are close to Terrain2STL's, with a Google Maps view on top.

The settings are box size (shown in km), box scale (the sampling rate), model scale, vertical scale factor, base height and a water drop for water areas. After generating, the page shows the model size in millimeters and a Download button. There are no route, color, shape or text options: you get one plain terrain block.

It is free and needs no account. The imprint names Vivid Planet Software GmbH in Salzburg, Austria as the operator. The site has no terms of use and does not state a license for the downloaded models or for the elevation data, beyond naming Viewfinder Panoramas.
