About Thingiverse Customizer
Thingiverse Customizer, originally built by MakerBot, was the first widely used way to personalise 3D models without CAD. Designers upload an OpenSCAD file with specially formatted parameters, and anyone can press Open in Customizer to get a form with sliders, dropdowns and text fields instead of code.
Years of uploads mean a very large back catalogue of customizable things, from prosthetic hands like the UnLimbited Arm to drawer boxes, gear bearings and car phone holders. You change the values, create your own version and download the STL.
Reliability is the catch. The customizer has gone through long outages in the past, and Thingiverse currently shows a notice that a brand new Customizer experience is being built. The Open in Customizer button is still shown on featured things, but expect slow renders and the occasional failure, and keep a local copy of OpenSCAD as a fallback.
