All 24 cookie cutter and stamp generators compared

The best cookie cutter generator for most people is CookieCAD: it traces a drawing, logo or photo into a cutter and a matching stamp, and STL downloads are free with a free account. If you already have a clean outline and want no account at all, ImageToStl’s Cookie/Pastry Cutter makes the file in seconds. For a whole tray of cookies in one pass, Meshcast builds rolling cutters.

SkipTheCAD has not printed these cutters. We compare them on documented features and on what each tool’s own pages say, and how we check explains what we looked at.

Quick answer

  • Best all-rounder: CookieCAD. Cutters, stamps, fondant cutters and stencils from your artwork, exported as STL, OBJ or 3MF.
  • Free with no account: ImageToStl Cookie/Pastry Cutter. Upload a black-and-white outline and download the cutter.
  • Best for bakers: Cutter Canvas. More than 110 occasion shapes, cookie-size and dough presets, and unlimited free STL downloads with no account.
  • Best for rolling cutters: Meshcast Cookie Cutter Generator. A roller that cuts a grid of shapes, plus hand cutters and word cutters.
  • Best for name and number cutters: CutterForge. Text cutters and STL downloads are free with an account.
  • Best cutter plus imprint in one: BakePress. Cutter and imprint cutter STLs are free on its Starter plan.
  • Best for a busy photo and one event: Cookie Design Lab. Background removal and a $5 pass for seven days.
  • Best text stamp for clay, soap and fondant: the Customizable Text Stamp by Yumi_Raven on MakerWorld.
  • Best for polymer clay earrings: CutClay, with thin blades and mirrored pairs.

Every tool in this group, including molds and measuring cups, is on the cookie cutter and stamp generators page.

  1. Start with a clean silhouette. A solid black shape on white, or an SVG, works best. Meshcast’s cutter page warns that busy photos, low-resolution images and thin script fonts trace badly.
  2. Pick a generator for the job: a plain cutter, a cutter with a stamp, a rolling cutter or a text stamp. The sections below match tools to each.
  3. Set the size and depth. Most tools take the cutter size in millimeters. For a rolling cutter the dough thickness is also the blade height.
  4. Check the preview. A cutter is only an outline, so enclosed details disappear. Add a stamp if you need them.
  5. Download the STL or 3MF and print it. Meshcast’s print settings are PLA or PETG, 0.16 to 0.2 mm layers, 2 to 3 perimeters, no supports and the cutting edge facing up.

Food safety is covered once, on the cookie cutter category page. Read it before you print a cutter for a real bake.

ImageToStl, Cutter Canvas, CookieCAD, CutterForge and BakePress all give you a cutter file without paying, and Meshcast has a small free allowance, covered in the rolling cutter section below.

ImageToStl needs no account at all. Its tool page asks for a plain black-and-white outline no larger than 2000 pixels and says a conversion usually takes around 5 seconds. It does not store your image, and the finished file is deleted after 4 hours. Besides STL, its Save As list includes 3MF, OBJ and STEP.

Cutter Canvas also needs no account, has no download limit, and is made for home bakers and cookie sellers. You start from more than 110 built-in shapes grouped by occasion, such as holidays, birthdays, baby showers and weddings, plus letters and numbers, or upload a photo or an SVG, or draw by hand. Its Baker view sets the cookie size (Mini 2.5 in, Standard 3.5 in or Platter 4.5 in), the dough depth for sugar cookies, gingerbread or fondant, and the handle; a Maker view gives millimeter control. A Google sign-in adds saving and AI shape and icing tools that use credits, and the site pushes a paid service that prints and ships a cutter for $15 to US addresses.

CookieCAD is the best-known name, with more than 100,000 registered users according to its designer page. Uploading and previewing need no account; downloading the free STL needs a free login. Premium adds private saved designs and finer cutter and stamp controls.

CutterForge keeps the editor, text cutters, saved projects and STL downloads free, and its pricing page says credits are only spent on AI help. New accounts get 5 free creations, and packs start at €4.99 for 10 credits.

BakePress keeps Cutter and Imprint Cutter STL exports free on its Starter plan, while stamps, texture rollers and matched sets need a paid Spark or Pro plan (pricing).

On the paid side, Cookie Design Lab sells a $5 pass for seven days or $100 a year, both with unlimited downloads (plans). CookieCutter Creator has no subscription: one credit buys one STL download, from $2.99 for 3 (pricing).

CookieCAD and Cookie Design Lab both trace photos, and Cookie Design Lab adds background removal for busy ones. CookieCAD takes a drawing, logo, photo or clip art and makes a cutter, a stamp or both; clear, high-contrast artwork still gives the cleanest result.

Cookie Design Lab lets you remove the background and clean up the outline before you download. Sign-in is through Google or Facebook only, and its terms say the STL files are for personal use and may not be resold.

CutterForge and BakePress both use AI to turn a photo or a typed idea into an outline, and both charge credits for that step. ImageToStl does not trace photos at all, so prepare an outline first.

The Meshcast Cookie Cutter Generator does. A switch at the top of the cutter page picks a hand cutter or a rolling cutter. The rolling cutter wraps a grid of your shape around a cylinder: you set the diameter, length and axle bore, how many shapes fit around and along the roller, and how much of each tile the cookie fills. An optional push-out pad holds each cookie on the board as the blade lifts away, and it can add a printed fork handle. Meshcast added the mode in August 2026.

The hand cutter has its own tricks. In text mode you type a word in one of 15 fonts, and you get a cutter around the whole word plus a stamp of the letters. For patterns rather than shapes, the Meshcast Texture Roller embosses a repeating design into clay or fondant.

The limit is the free allowance. The first download works without an account. After that, according to Meshcast’s pricing, a free account gets 5 downloads to start and then 3 a week, each with a small Meshcast engraving and for personal use only. Pro costs $20 a month and allows selling what you make. The code INFO gives a discount on a paid Meshcast plan; it is our affiliate code.

For stamps that match a cutter, use CookieCAD. For fondant embossers and icing stencils, use CookieCutter Creator. For text pressed into clay or soap, use the Yumi_Raven stamp.

  • CookieCAD makes a cutter and a matching stamp from the same artwork, plus cake pop, sandwich, clay and fondant cutters.
  • CookieCutter Creator covers fondant embossers and debossers and royal icing stencils, with millimeter controls. It can also print and ship the finished tool.
  • Customizable Text Stamp (Yumi_Raven) takes up to three lines of text, mirrors them by default and adds a twist-lock handle. The model page says a rigid PLA or PETG print presses into clay, soap, soft leather, play dough and fondant, and suggests a TPU face for ink pads. Its license rules out selling prints without permission.
  • Stamp Maker (Koolm) is the popular MakerWorld choice for ink stamps with text, icons or your own SVG.
  • Stamp3D makes text and logo stamps in the browser, free and with no signup, and mirrors the STL so the stamped impression reads correctly.
  • 3DGEN has a cookie and clay cutter, a stamp and a texture roller among its browser generators, next to casting molds for soap, wax, resin and plaster. Free downloads carry a small engraved mark and are capped each week, and selling needs its Pro or Founder plan.
  • CutClay is built for polymer clay jewelry: a 0.4 mm default cutting tip, imprint cutters and mirrored left and right earring pairs. The free plan allows 10 exports in total for personal use; Pro is $49 a year.

For a one-off holiday bake, Cookie Design Lab’s seven-day pass covers a whole set of custom shapes from photos or drawings, and its FAQ mentions Christmas cutters by name. Cutter Canvas has holiday shapes in its built-in library, free with no account. For simple trees, stars and gingerbread figures, draw a bold outline and run it through ImageToStl for free. A Meshcast rolling cutter with a star or tree cuts a full tray per pass, which helps when you bake in bulk.

Name cutters from CutterForge make a cookie that doubles as a place card or gift tag. Start a couple of weeks early, because each cutter is a separate print. For ornaments and other holiday prints, see Christmas 3D prints without CAD.

What should you check before you print?

  • Keep lines at least about 1 mm wide at print size. Meshcast warns that anything thinner is fragile, so scale the cutter up or simplify the drawing.
  • Match the blade to the dough. A cutter that is shorter than your rolled dough will not cut through.
  • Clean the cutting edge. If dough sticks, Meshcast suggests flouring the cutter or lightly sanding the inside face. A deburring tool removes stray strings and sharp seams.
  • Read the license before you sell. Cookie Design Lab’s terms limit its files to personal use, the MakerWorld stamps need the designer’s paid license, CutClay, Meshcast and 3DGEN need a paid plan, and CutterForge, BakePress and Cutter Canvas allow commercial use, though Cutter Canvas’s terms forbid copying trademarks or characters for sale. Frequently asked questions

Can you 3D print a rolling cookie cutter?

Yes. The Meshcast Cookie Cutter Generator has a rolling cutter mode that repeats your shape around a cylinder, so rolling it once across the dough cuts a whole sheet of cookies. You set the roller diameter, length and axle hole, how many shapes fit around and along it, and the dough thickness, which is also the blade height. Roll the dough out to that thickness or the blades will not reach the board, and print the roller standing on its end, which needs no supports.

What is the difference between a cutter, an imprint cutter and a stamp?

A cutter only cuts the outline, so detail inside the shape, such as the middle of a letter O, cannot be part of it. An imprint cutter cuts the outline and presses raised detail into the dough in the same push; BakePress and CutClay both make them. A stamp is a separate piece you press into the dough after cutting, and CookieCAD and Meshcast can make one that matches your cutter.

Why did my drawing turn into lots of small cutters?

Because the lines were too thin for the tracer. It looks for one closed silhouette, so thin strokes break apart into separate pieces, and each piece becomes its own cutter. Make the lines bolder in an image editor, or upload a bigger version of the image, and run the trace again. A solid black silhouette on a white background, or an SVG, traces most cleanly.

What you'll need

PETG for functional and outdoor prints

PETG handles heat, sunlight and repeated flexing better than PLA, so Gridfinity bins in a hot garage or signs mounted outdoors keep their shape.

White PLA for lithophanes

A lithophane is only as good as the light passing through it. A neutral, evenly pigmented white gives smooth gray gradients, while an off-white or patchy batch shows up as blotches and color casts once it is backlit.

TPU for flexible parts

TPU bends and springs back instead of snapping, which makes it the right choice for straps, bumpers and keychains that get tugged every day.
