What is TripoSG?

TripoSG is a free browser demo on Hugging Face that turns one photo of an object into a 3D mesh you can download as a GLB file. It runs the open-source image-to-3D model from VAST, the company behind the commercial Tripo AI app. You upload a picture, the page cuts out the background, and Generate Shape returns a plain mesh you can spin around in the browser.

Under Generation Settings you can change the seed, the inference steps (8 to 50), the CFG scale and a target face count from 10,000 to 1,000,000, which keeps files a sensible size for a slicer. A separate Apply Texture button paints color onto the model, but for printing the bare shape is enough. The code and weights are MIT licensed, so you can also run it on your own GPU. The demo's cutout step uses Bria's RMBG-1.4, which is licensed for non-commercial use, so read those terms before selling prints made through the demo.

Hugging Face gives visitors without an account 2 minutes of shared GPU time a day (5 with a free account), so expect only a few tries. The Space has not been updated since May 2025. Convert the GLB to STL and check thin parts before slicing. It suits makers who want a free, no-signup route from picture to figurine.

What you can make

  • Figurines from a single photo
  • Props and small objects
  • Untextured meshes ready to convert to STL
  • Textured GLB models

How to use TripoSG

  1. Open the TripoSG Space on Hugging Face
  2. Upload a clear photo of one object and click Generate Shape
  3. Optionally change the seed, steps or target face count and run it again
  4. Download the GLB from the Generated GLB viewer
  5. Convert it to STL, scale it and slice

TripoSG pros

  • Free to try with no account, and the MIT-licensed model can also run on your own GPU
  • Automatic background removal plus a target face count slider (10k to 1M faces) to control file size
  • Shape and texture are separate steps, so you can grab the plain mesh for printing without waiting for texturing

TripoSG cons

  • Exports GLB only, so you need to convert it to STL or 3MF before slicing
  • The shared ZeroGPU quota allows only a few runs a day, especially without a Hugging Face login
  • Image input only, no print checks or repair, and the Space has not been updated since May 2025
