Three tools test the code before you print. 1. Write and test the tag first. Save your link, Wi-Fi login or contact card to the tag with a free phone app such as NFC Tools, and tap it with your phone to check it works. A few layers of plastic do not stop a tag, so you can also rewrite it after printing.
2. Check that the pocket fits. Measure the diameter and thickness of your tag with calipers and compare them with the pocket in the generator.
3. Find the layer that closes the pocket. In your slicer’s preview, move the layer slider to the first layer that covers the pocket.
4. Add a pause at that layer. In Bambu Studio or OrcaSlicer, right-click the layer slider and choose Add Pause.
5. Drop the tag in and resume. Press it flat, so it sits below the nozzle’s path.
6. Keep it away from metal. A standard tag sitting directly on metal often fails to read. Buy an on-metal tag for a sign on a steel door or a fridge.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change where a printed QR code points after I print it?

Not with a normal code, because the link is part of the pattern. Encode a link you control instead, such as a page on your own website that you can redirect later. A dynamic code does the same through a service: GenQRCode includes 10 with a free account, but the code only works while that service keeps running. An NFC tag is easier, since you can rewrite it with your phone unless you lock it.

Should I use a QR code or an NFC tag?

Use both if you can. Any phone camera reads a QR code, and people can see it is there. An NFC tag hides inside the print and opens the link when a phone touches it, but it only works within a few centimeters, and some phones need NFC switched on first. Several QR sign generators leave a pocket for a tag, so one sign can do both.
